Los Angeles Comic Con has announced that although the convention will be rescheduled from September to December, the event is still planned to be held this year, now with some restraints and precautionary measures intended to safeguard against the spread of COVID-19.

While the convention was originally scheduled for September 25th through September 27th, 2020, it has been determined that there is no safe way for LACC ’20 to take place this autumn. However, the announcement on LACC’s website states that they believe it will be possible to hold a safe convention during the winter, from December 11th through December 13th, 2020.

The rescheduled convention will also include several measures specifically designed to help stymie the spread of COVID-19. According to the LACC’s announcement, here’s what they have planned, and what differences you can expect from last year’s convention.

First and foremost, everyone will be required to wear face masks.

The West and Petree Halls will be added to increase the available indoor convention space, totaling 850,000 square feet. The main stage will be relocated to the West Hall, where all 145,000 square feet of that space will be dedicated to the main stage.

The South Hall, where artists and exhibitor booths will be located, will have only one-way aisles, to help mitigate the possibility of bottlenecking.

To control density, each person will be assigned a six foot diameter circle. Tickets sold will be limited to 12,000, which the website states is one-third the normal LACC person-density. And the addition of 400,000 square feet of waiting space inside and outside the LA Convention Center aims to ensure everyone has plenty of room while they’re in line.

Plus, additional cleaning procedures are planned, in accordance with advice from LA County Health and the CDC.

If you aren’t interested in attending LACC in person, there will be digital options, as well. Any on-site ticket for LACC will include an all-day digital pass, which will include access to all panels and Main Stage events at the convention on that day. And digital-only tickets will be sold for those who wish to access the online content but have no desire to attend the con in person.

As of right now, tickets for LACC are scheduled to go on sale the week of September 21st, 2020. However, the announcement states that these plans remain tentative, and the event will be held (or cancelled) based on the guidance of the City of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, and the State of California.
