Those little green men really get around. Now the nefarious Martians are invading Hyrkania during the Hyborian Age in Dynamite’s new crossover series Mars Attacks Red Sonja! This untold tale pits the “steel and savagery of Red Sonja…against the advanced weaponry and science of the big-brained baddies.”
Written by John Layman (Chew, Detective Comics) and with art by Fran Strukan (The Shape of Elvira), the series will feature colors by Valentina Briski and letters by Taylor Esposito.
“This is a book I actively pushed Dynamite to do, and I bugged them and bugged them until they finally approved it because I wouldn’t go away,” said Layman. “I’m a HUGE fan of both properties, and the idea of mixing violent barbarian sword & sorcery with ultra-violent over-the-top retro sci-fi is simply irresistible to me.”
Strukan added, “It’s really amazing the amount of luck a person can have. Growing up with certain characters and then one day –Wham! You’re doing a crossover between some of the most beloved things from your childhood. All of that, and with a veteran writer (and fellow decapitation lover) John at the helm, it’s impossible to express the amount of excitement I have for this book.”
This isn’t Layman’s first time dealing with the little green men or Sonja. Fans can look for Easter eggs from his previous celebrated Martian run as well as an early Dynamite crossover Red Sonja/Claw.
The first issue of the series features a slew of covers from top artists like Lucio Parrillo, Dustin Nguyen, Arthur Suydam, Luca Strati, Barry Kitson, and Alan Quah.
Mars Attacks Red Sonja #1 is slated for release in August. Ask your local comic shop to reserve your copy. For digital, check out Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital, ComicsPlus, and more.
